Stitch me some lovin’

IMAG0199_1

Hey hey, it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow! That one day where we divide ourselves into two distinct camps: Those who adore the opportunity to get romantic – buy huge bunches of flowers for no reason other than to say ‘I love you’, spoil their lover with luxurious chocolates, pop a marriage proposal over a dinner date – and those who despise and deplore the commercialisation, the sickly affections, and the reminder that society values you considerably more once you’re neatly paired off.

So, as I don’t know which camp you, gentle reader, fall into, I’m going to show you

Christmas Hearts workshop

heartsrednwhite

Come all ye craftful, and escape the consumer chaos by spending a relaxing afternoon making beautiful Christmas heart decorations. I will show you how to make simple motif hearts, with whatever message you like on them, as well as traditional Scandinavian woven hearts (which are actually little pockets, so you can hang them on the tree with a chocolate coin or treasure inside). They look complicated, but they’re really not. Step away from the madding crowds, slow down, and let your creative self play.

joy_heart

Make them for gifts, make them just for yourself, make as many as you want. A perfect antidote to rushing around buying mass-produced gubbins, you will come away from this workshop with your festive soul healed.

Seasonal refreshments and scintillating conversation provided as standard, and there is also a lovely cafe downstairs if you want to get lunch. Tickets available below. Concessionary rate of £17 available to those in receipt of benefits or on a very low income, just apply the code “Dodo” at the checkout 🙂

I find big paper a great medium for collecting ideas, and when I put out a table-length of lining paper at my ‘Open Studio’ event and asked “What can we do, now, to make this world a better place?”, I got some *really* good ones 🙂 Plant trees, and hug them! Play music, laugh, take a deep breath,

Elephants at the Edge

It’s funny when I hear people talking about how ‘storytelling is dead’, or maybe, ‘storytelling is “the dawn of a new creative movement”, when in fact, it’s as old as humanity, and has never gone out of fashion. This summer saw the 24th storytelling Festival at the Edge, in Much Wenlock, Shropshire, and I was invited to take along my crafting skills and weave some crafty-story magic.

I know, sounds amazing right? It’s just

Hello Monday

Handmade card

Been playing around with paper this week, just for a change. I’m signed up for the Paperphilia ‘Paperlove Challenge’ this month, which is full of daily papery crafty fun things to do. Including, how to make an origami heart!  Anyhoo, to keep up with my love of surprising friends and strangers alike with ‘random things in the post’, I got an old Spanish/English dictionary, and my letter stamps, and made a few cards. Whaddya reckon?

Sharing the love

**GIVEAWAY TIME** Right then you ‘orrible lot! Once Picky Miss reaches 150 ‘likes’ on Facebook, I’m going to give away a random parcel of crafty stuff to one of my likers. I’m not sure what’ll be in it yet, but it will be a veritable magpie-trove of crafty bits and bobs. Some things made, some things to make yourself! So please get the word about, tell your friends about Picky Miss, and let’s see how quickly we can hit 150. Here’s the link to my Facebook page. Or, not wishing to exclude those who choose not to engage with Facebook (and good for you, btw), add a comment below telling me what you like about Picky Miss, and I’ll include you in the grand prize draw 🙂 And….go!
