Fellow crafters and creatives, here’s a question: do you have a stash of ‘craft/art supplies’ that you swear you’ll find a use for one day? A big pile of boxes or bags or just stuff, filled with shiny things, pretty things, useful things, things to be made into other things? Do you? Will you ever use them? Will you? Really?
Yeah, I know, you don’t have to answer all those questions, I already know. And I feel your torment. It’s OK, you can keep all the things; I’m sure you’ll find a use for them any day now. I had a big sort out back in the spring, and was determined to be ruthless with my crates of ‘bits of scrap material’ I’d accumulated. Not throw them out, HELL NO, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SAY THAT?! GOD. Yeesh. No, I thought I’d make them into something. I’ll make a big collage, and then I’ll have a pretty Thing, and no more scraps! Yeah right.
So, the first thing I pulled out was a slightly dirty white tablecloth, about the size of a double bed (I know because my double bed is also my work’table’ – swanky studio is on my wishlist, don’t you worry). And then I pinned and stuck from there. Just odds and sods when I had a spare hour or two. Lots of sewing, a fair amount of swearing (I have a very old sewing machine), and by midsummer I had a pretty Thing, and no noticeable decrease in the size of my fabric stash. Go figure.
